or anyone who still finds joy in seeing Virginia Bluebells blossom in the spring and considers a vacation time to stop watching the computer screen and spend the day watching a woodpecker, Hester House is the place.

Hester House offers a retreat from day-to-day stresses by creating a haven for Brown County visitors who want to enjoy the excitement of the area and relax in an unpretentious environment. Guests will find home-style luxury in quiet accommodations close to downtown where they don't have to get gussied up to be pampered.

Our four guestrooms offer spacious accommodations with queen-sized four-poster beds and private bathrooms. Three rooms include bathroom facilities nearly as large as the sleeping areas with new jacuzzis and large shower stalls. Our jacuzzi tubs feature every modern convenience from multiple jets to underwater mood lighting. The fourth room includes a tub and shower without enhanced tubs for guests with more traditional taste. Each room is air-conditioned for the warmer months and has its own thermostat control.

Hester House allows guests to escape the busy main street shops and tourist attractions to enjoy a soothing cup of coffee on the porch. After a busy day of shopping or hiking in the park, come back to listen to the sounds of nature as the sun sets and stars rise above the hills.

Large windows in the front of the house bring natural light into rooms for guests to enjoy a continental breakfast while gazing out at autumn leaves, spring flowers, the lush greenness of summer or our winter wonderland. When its time to go shopping, the house is just a block away from the main street of Nashville, where you'll find hundreds of unique stores, restaurants, museums or theater.

Hester House was built in 1855 for James S. Hester, Brown County's first Circuit Court Judge. Much of the front of the house, with its Greek Revival architectural style, is still original while the back portion was added later. When Hester House was built it was considered one of the most luxurious homes in the area and to this day inspectors say it is among the best built in Brown County.

Innkeepers Gerald and Lyn Alexander have been in the guest room business for a decade. In addition, Lyn was a Brown County business owner for more than 10 years and takes pride in sharing her love of the area with new friends and old. Gerald taught high school history for 33 years before retiring in 1999 to devote his full attention to making others comfortable in Brown County.
